Living Greener With DD-Scientific - June 2023
DD-scientific is an independent producer of electrochemical sensors and is widely acknowledged to be a market leader for their innovative designs and rapid velocity development cycles which other, often much larger companies are unable to match.
The ESG range of gas sensors provide long working lifetimes and low drift performance, thus reducing the number of sensors consumed during the life of an instrument or detector which is good news for the end- user as well as having a positive impact on both labour costs and emissions to atmosphere during transit.
Their CO, H2S and O2 sensors are guaranteed to deliver robust measurement for 5 years or more The ESG principles: environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and effective governance practices. Applying these principles to the development of electrochemical gas sensors ensures that the technology aligns with the broader goals of sustainable development.
Environmental SustainabilityDD-Scientific have a clear focus on minimising their environmental impact. From design through to production and testing, their energy-efficient manufacturing processes coupled with their cutting edge designs, ensure minimal waste generation.
However, with a global customer base and with some sensors travelling up to 16,000 KM before being placed into use, reducing air-miles and emissions created from transport is a challenge. Hence the introduction of the 5 year life sensors, for while DD Scientific cannot change supply chains nor the location of manufacturing hubs, reducing the number of sensors required over the working life of the instrument has a positive impact in enabling producers and end-users to reduce their carbon footprint and operational costs.
Social ResponsibilityDD Scientific have a duty of care for their employees, their neighbours and their customers. From their ethical sourcing of materials, to their commitment to fair labour practices and the promotion of the mental well-being and physical health and safety of employees, every aspect of their operation is monitored and regularly reviewed to ensure that best practices are followed and improvements to their systems are adopted.
Governance PracticesMany of the sensors produced by DD Scientific are used in life safety critical devices that alert and protect workers from the effects of exposure to toxic gases and Oxygen deficiency / enrichment. Therefore effective governance is essential for ensuring transparency, accountability, and compliance within the development and distribution of DD-Scientific products. DD-scientific follow all best practices and regulations in their operations, making their processes more transparent and accountable. This includes maintaining high-quality standards, adhering to regulatory frameworks, and conducting rigorous testing and validation procedures.

DD-Scientific release new industrial hydrogen gas sensor - January 2023
In 1800 the scientists William Nicholson and Sir Anthony Carlisle discovered that by applying an electric current to water, hydrogen and oxygen were released. Fast forward two centuries and hydrogen is seen as being key to replace fossil fuels in the quest to achieve net zero by 2050.
Green hydrogen produced by electrolysis with the power coming from renewable sources such as solar and wind is the cleanest energy. However, although the cost of renewable projects has reduced significantly, it is still more expensive to produce in comparison to cracking methane (known as blue or grey hydrogen, depending upon whether the carbon dioxide created is captured or not).
From all forms of transportation, through to industry and domestic use, hydrogen is an enabler to reduce or eliminate completely the requirement to burn fossil fuels. Whilst world leaders have been trying to broker a deal on how the world can reduce emissions, a Swedish girl by the name of Greta Thunberg has been getting our younger generation to think more about the planet.
We are pleased to introduce a range of novel hydrogen sensors provided in both an industry standard 20mm package and a miniaturised DceL version. They are optimised for a variety of hydrogen sensing applications and are all fitted with high capacity filters to reduce interference from carbon monoxide and SOx and NOx species. With reduced drift characteristics operation over a wide temperature range over an extended period of time and a fast T90 response, our cells are ready to play their part in the journey to net zero. The sensors are available in a number of different measurement ranges from 0-5000ppm up to 0-5%.

More than a decade of sensing - November 2022
In 2011 DD-Scientific had a site comprising of a single building, offering sensors for only six gas types and two package sizes, with a team who would be outnumbered on a football pitch.
Since we started our journey much has changed, the world has more or less reached an accord on tackling climate change, Neptune completed its first full rotation of the sun since discovery, the first photo of the black hole was taken and Game of Thrones started and finished.
Fast forwarding to 2022, the site now comprises four buildings occupying an area the size of two football pitches and we now offer an impressive portfolio of package sizes and gases. The team has expanded by a factor of ten, including several apprentices. It would be a waste if we didn't share our industry expertise.
Did we mention our Queen’s award for export excellence?
Our founding goal was and continues to be to deliver sensors of high quality and consistent performance at competitive prices to the marketplace. We achieve this by investing in new technologies and manufacturing equipment, and designing sensors from the start to be as simple as possible to manufacture whilst not sacrificing performance.
DD-Scientific are focused on developing and maintaining deep collaborative client relationships, working with our customers to find solutions and sensors they need for their products irrespective of the size of the project.
The young team at DD-Scientific are backed by key personnel with over 250+ years of experience between them in gas sensors and gas detection instrumentation. With the team having a rich experience of sensor, instrumentation and gas detection applications, we fully understand our end-users' needs and requirements in both performance, delivery, and pricing to keep them at the forefront of gas detection technology.

DD-Scientific has NO limits when it comes to their market leading nitric oxide sensors - September 2022
Nitric oxide gas detectors are deployed in various industrial applications and the demand on performance is always increasing. At DD-Scientific we are always one step ahead of the competition and despite our nitric oxide sensors’ already strong position in the market, we’ve gone even further with significant improvements. Not only have we improved the response and recovery time, we’ve also extended the overload limit and reduced the impact of temperature. Whether you are monitoring nitric oxide in underground car parks, industrial processes or worker safety applications, there is really NO other choice.

Lead free oxygen sensors moving the market forward - April 2022
Whilst oxygen sensors with metal lead inside currently enjoy an exemption from Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) legislation, this is due to be lifted in 2024 and from that point equipment manufacturers may no longer be able to sell new instruments using lead based technology.
Fortunately, DD-Scientific has spent considerable time and effort developing a lead-free alternative solution delivering compliance with legislation and significantly enhanced performance and sensor working lifetimes. The lead-free technology from DD-Scientific works similarly to traditional toxic electrochemical sensors, meaning that OEMs do not need to develop additional complex drive circuitry. Their design makes them inherently stable over a long period of time, potentially more than 8 years and unlike lead based sensors are unaffected by use in acid gas streams. They are available in our standard 4 Series general purpose industrial package and more recently in a miniature DceL package to enhance the portability of personal gas monitors. They are also available in the DD-Scientific 5 Series package for use in emissions monitoring and combustion gas analysis. |
